The Center of my Universe (sort of)

Yes, my kitchen sink is the center of my universe. Well, actually no, but it seems to directly correlate to the state of my brain.

This is my sink right now. And right now, I can handle this house- this mess, the Compact, all of it. For some reason I need my sink clean to be able to clean the rest of this house.

When the sink is nasty and full of dishes, I cant get a glass of water, I cant wash my hands, I cant get a vision for why I love this place. I could clean the bathrooms, or sweep or vacuum, but feel totally overwhelmed by it all. But with my sink shining- I'm ok.

So, I sort of stole this from Fly Lady. It's works for me and that's a HUGE step. Now I've just got to keep it up!!!

Oh, and by the way, that's my tea strainer hanging from the faucet- not anything weird. :)

First of all...I just love your blog. Love it. Second of all, this was a very timely post for me. I can relate 100%. We were sick today and I didn't have the energy to do anything...so the dishes just kept piling up, which made me even more distressed. I cannot handle LIFE or anything else when my sink is full/kitchen is messy. We don't have a dishwasher now either, so it does feel like all I do is stand in front of the sink ALL day. When I first read FlyLady's advice several years ago, I took it seriously and never forgot. I shine my sink whenever I can and then I step back and REJOICE :)

I totally relate to the whole sink thing. When I start organizing my house- I start with the sink and kitchen.

I've been a FlyBaby for about four or five months now. And you're right, it does all start with the sink.
Love your blog :o)

I like what Fly lady says in some respects, but I cant follow the whole system- it'd drive me crazy- especially the getting dressed to the lace up shoes part- just not gonna happen.

I took alot of things from it, though. I dont hitnk theres any perfect solution for anyone.

Ok, off to do my dishes.

I'm so with you on this. I try to make sure my sink area is clean before I go to bed at night. I stayed up til 11:30 last night making sure it was done. It was so worth it for my peace of mind.

After spending my whole life as a messy and cluttered person I am finally getting a handle on things and now find that when I am organized and neat I can handle life a lot better. I have never done FlyLady but one of my "new" routines is cleaning up the dishes every night...it seems to make the next whole day go better...funny how that works!

(that last comment was from me, but I adnt signed Matt out- so I deleted it ad started over---I'm still getting the hang of this!)

Anyway- last night I went to bed without doing the dishes- but luckily this morning I'm blessed with the time to do them- Matt took Wyatt to school for me. If that hadn't happened- they'd probably get out of control and I'd lose control of it all. It's so weird.

My things are the floors. If the floors are swept and vacuumed, I feel better about the whole house. (They don't even have to be wiped/washed, although that really helps!)

I'm working on the floor thing- theres something about me that I just am not that picky with floors. Until I have someoe over-then I'm suddenly aware that my floors are DISGUSTING. And I have a crawling baby!!! I need to be a little more vigilant.
